Gymnema contains substances that decrease the absorption of sugar from the intestine.
Indian gooseberry seems to work by reducing total cholesterol levels, including the fatty acids called triglycerides, without affecting levels of the good cholesterol called high-density lipoprotein (HDL).
Jambolan. Jambolan seed and bark contains chemicals that might lower blood sugar, but extracts from jambolan leaf and fruit don't seem to affect blood sugar. Jambolan also contains chemicals that might protect against oxidation damage, as well as chemicals that reduce swelling.
Terminalia contains ingredients that help stimulate the heart. It might also help the heart by lowering cholesterol and blood pressure.
Bacopa might increase certain brain chemicals that are involved in thinking, learning, and memory. Some research suggests that it might also protect brain cells from chemicals involved in Alzheimer's disease.
Sida cordifolia plant contains ephedrine, which is an amphetamine-like stimulant.
Turmeric contains the chemical curcumin. Curcumin and other chemicals in turmeric might decrease swelling (inflammation). Because of this, turmeric might be beneficial for treating conditions that involve inflammation.
Oil obtained from cinnamon bark is used in dental and pharmaceutical preparations. The bark is used to aid in digestion, relieve from headache, gastrointestinal and respiratory disorders, and as an aphrodisiac.
